My Birthday Adventure Part II: Max Brenner
Last week I celebrated my birthday at Gasho with my brother and my boyfriend. A few days ago, my best friend Natalia took me out to celebrate at one of our favorite restaurants, Max Brenner. It was Natalia who put me on to this delicious restaurant and now I am hooked.
I picked her up from her job and we walked to the restaurant, debating what we were going to order. We already knew we were going to get a drink and that we definitely wanted the Really Crunchy Mac N Cheese, we just were not sure what else we wanted to try. We made a deal that every time we go to Max Brenner, we have to try a new entree and a new dessert. The only constants are our drinks and the Mac N Cheese.
We wasted no time when we got there, ordering our celebratory drinks. I got my usual White Russian with the two marshmallowsand Natalia got a peach lemonade which she did not like so she sent it back and ordered her safe mojito.
For appetizers, we ordered our Really Crunchy Mac N Cheese and we decided to try Molly's White Corn Croquettes. The croquettes were tasty and the only negative thing was that it came with four little croquettes on a big plate. C'mon Max, you could have put these four little croquettes on a really small plate so at least it would look like there is more! As for the Really Crunchy Mac N Cheese...ah, there is no word to describe how good this heavenly dish is.
On the top is a layer of perfectly crispy macaroni and cheese sprinkled with fresh tomato bits. They also give you a small plate with more fresh tomato (trust me, you will eat these as well, either on top on the macaroni and cheese or alone) and a side of marinara sauce. Once you dig your fork into the dish, a beautiful gooey mess of melted cheese covering the macaroni is exposed and the rest is history. This picture does it no justice!
After we stuffed our faces with the appetizers, we decided to get the Blackened Skirt Steak & Mushroom Quesadillas which comes with fire roasted jalapeño salsa & sour cream. We each ate two quesadillas and at this point we were starting to get a little full.
But what's a birthday celebration without a Max Brenner desert?!
If you have never been to Max Brenner, you must go NOW...no but really, their desert menu is ridiculous, with waffles, crepes, chocolate pizza, ice cream, fondue, and cake just to name a few. Choosing a desert here is always hard for me because I want to try everything on the menu. Natalia and I finally decided on the Banana Split Waffles and we were happy that we did!
Call us fat asses but we had one banging dinner and I had a great time celebrating my birthday with her, thank you for everything Talia!
