  • Cakewalk in Manhattan Part 1: Upper East Side

This is a guest post from CakeSpy.

Not long ago, I heard about a group of artists who do the most wonderful thing to keep themselves inspired: they will navigate that city with a map of a different city. The idea, of course, being that sometimes, removing yourself from your natural element can help you see the world through new eyes. Well, to say I was enamored of this idea would be a bit of an understatement, and I have since tried to incorporate this idea into my pastry-eating and adventuring.

So when I was headed to NYC, to create an adventure to rival my pastry half-marathon, I knew I'd have to think of something good. More Here...

  • Foods I Can Only have When Visting My Hometown...NYC

I am originally from  Brooklyn New York, and I try to get back East at least once a year to see family and friends, but when I come into town the other thing I have on my mind besides seeing people is getting my “Food Fix”.  When I say “Food Fix” I mean eating food that I can’t get back on the West Coast.  Regional food is what I call the food that you just can’t get anyplace.  I’m sure there is food that you have to travel for that you love in order to get.

Here are my top 5 “Food Fixes” that I must get before leaving New York, or I am not a happy camper. More Here...

  • BBQ Detour

There is nothing worse then being stuck in traffic with no end in sight, but having a snack in hand can tremendously improve this situation.  My boyfriend and I try to find as many hidden gems off the beaten path as possible.  Sometimes this requires driving the opposite way, but in the end, even a ride over a questionable bridge (currently under repair) is worth it.

On a recent trip to Stowe, VT, we stumbled upon Holy Smokes BBQ Delicatessen in Turners Falls, MA.  I was skeptical at first, Massachusetts is not exactly known for having the greatest BBQ, but with BBQ on the list of top 5 favorite foods for both of us, we are always willing to take a chance. • Off the Grid - Mobile Food Extravaganza

    Kung Fu Tacos

Being a nerd, whenever I’m busy, I tend to dig a hole for myself and become a cave-lady until I’ve plowed through my to-do list. As you can imagine, such a lifestyle makes it hard for me to always be in the know and stay on top of trends. Luckily, I’m surrounded by many wonderful foodies who keep me abreast of the things to try.

One such example is the cult following of gourmet food trucks. There were many food trucks that I wanted to try but I simply didn’t have the time to chase them around all over town. I was overjoyed when a foodie friend invited me to Off the Grid. The photos below document our little food adventure at Fort Mason last year. Please excuse the poor quality of the photos. I was using one hand to take photos with my phone while holding food in the other.
